Since my “base of operations” will be Vernita Bridge, I will post my Chinook posts under area 11, however I bounce around and fish areas 9-12.

Saturday was officially my first guided trip in the new boat. I was nervous about producing for my 5 guest as they came all the way from Billing, MT to join me. It’s a little early in the season to hope for 5 limits. I strive to get everyone a hook up. Beyond that is icing on the cake.

The morning started out a little slow. Nothing for over an hour. Rather than getting nervous I kept working my rotten banana supperbait and another one I repainted. Finally the kings started cooperating. I worked 2 downriggers along the bottom, and a third at 18-21’ all rods produced and we ended up hooking 15 fish. 10 of these made it to the net. The really fun part was that each fish we caught was bigger than the one before it. My guests were ecstatic with the first 7 lb fish, and blown away at the end of the day with the 25 pounder. What a fun crew and a great way to start my season.

Here is a tip I’d like to share. Check your bait next to the boat and make sure it’s spinning correctly before you set it out. This is how I set my troll speed. I’m most concerned that I’m getting the roll speed I want.
