Well, I do not like giving reports of fishing when I actually had no fish caught, but I am doing this one just because.
I had not fished since the Brewster Salmon derby and wanted to get out before they shut off the 2 pole endorsement here on the Brewster section of the river which don't even get me started on why they do that every year. Just one of the many rules I don't understand.
So I left the Brewster launch at about 5:00 am and was the only boat trailer there.
I decided to start at my go-to spot all these years fishing the Columbia this time of year up Parasal's pump around the corner from Naked Indian Beach. Early mornings are my favorite there as the water is not swift like it gets in the afternoons.
I loaded with my favorite super bait cut plugs and using Leos's flashers I trolled around that area for a couple hours with no hits and not much showing on the finder. I decided to head to Bridgeport to see if there were boats there. As soon as I got close I saw 2 boats fishing below the old hatchery, and I went above them to the blowholes and put back in my bait. No hits here either and not any numbers of fish on the finder. So after a while there the wind picked up so I did as well, and headed back to the pump, made a couple passes there, and actually saw a few fish rising but not like it usually is. Then on down to Pelican Point and nothing there so moved on around to the Brewster pool and there were a few boats in there fishing so I made a couple of passes, nothin and even though the finder was full of fish down by the mouth of the Okanogan most likely Sockeye, which I do not fish for at all, no Kings did I see.
I have seen another year like this where it seems the Kings are not where they usually are, I am guessing they moved to their spawning grounds early. Not being an expert, I really don't know, but I can tell you I hate to see this so early in the season. I may try a couple more times down by Bridgeport as the fish really should be in down there, coming home to their new Hatchery by Chief Joesph Dam.
