The normal trio arrived at Coulee City this morning to find a strong NW wind howling and good sized rollers and whitecaps. We headed north by road and found the wind equally strong at the Northrup Canyon launch. Other anglers probably smarter than us decided that breakfast was a better idea than taking on the wind. Thanks Brian for the fish information. It was rough but manageable as we crossed over to Barker flats where pulling crankbaits was doable. We managed 5 eyes between 8-11:00 am and our stubbornness was rewarded with the wind suddenly laying down.
We switched to bottom bouncers with slow death rigs and game was immediately on. We boated 14 eyes in the next 2 hours. Green/chartreuse beads with silver blades seemed to work best in 20-24 FOW at 0.9-1.2 mph. Water temp was 67*. Most fish were14-16” with the largest pushing 20”. We filled a gallon zip lock bag with fillets.
Despite the smoke and wind it was another great day on the water with great friends!
