Well we headed towards the fires and gave Deep Lake a shot. Lots of smoke but we were on the water at 06:30. First fish was caught in 3 minutes. As usual the bite was off at 8:00, this is an early morning fishery, after 8 it gets extremely slow. We landed 15 fish by 07:45 and lost 5 more. We continued to fish until 09:30 and managed to only get 2 more fish, just couldn’t get the last 3 fish for a double limit.
We trolled around at 1.0-1.3 mph with Kokabow watermelon dodgers and pink homemade flies. All scents seemed to work the same. After 8:00 we just could not get the fish to co-operate no matter what we threw at them. We saw tons of fish on the screen, just couldn’t get them to bite, mother nature turns off the bite switch on this lake almost like clockwork.
Smallest fish was 10” and the biggest was 11”, not much size but they taste good. The best part is we had the whole lake to ourselves, guess it was too smoky. We left Deep Lake and headed to Banks Lake to check out the walleye action.
