A huge shout out to rmrsuscher of this site for all of his help! We fished off of Eagle Cliffs for the first time and were rewarded well. We had fished here the day before as well as off of Indian Village the day before with only Dog fish to take our offerings. We ran a green flasher with red stripe with Irish creme tail wagger or green squid on one side. The winning side was a purple haze flasher and an OG2! I squirted herring gel on all presentations. We were 145 feet on the wire in 125- 130 ft of water.
This was my son Jeffs first Chinook! A 17.3 pounder. As well as a nice Birthday present. It capped a great family vacation of crabbing, kayaking and fishing.
The crabbing was not as good as 20 years ago... We did ok. We got enough to feast for 2 meals.
Thanks again Randy and to this site!

Nice fish! Are you fishing ring pots under a float?

We fished both rings and pots. We only got Red Rock in the rings. It was frustrating in that we were trying to get some for dinner the first night and worked our tails off. Left the pots over night and got 11 keepers from 4 of the 5 we left out. The 5th dissapeared...

Great looking fish. I had similar experiences with our little shark friends (caught 16 of those buggers last weekend, including 2 in my crab traps O.o) before someone finally gave me a hint (we were the only boats with that kinda action in there). Increase your speed. After increasing my speed to about 45* downrigger angle, all the other hookups were with fish we had to release (too many fins at that time) but not a single dogfish after. Hope that helps the next time you're up there. I'll be up there Saturday in a red Hewescraft.

I've been disappointed so far this year with Indian Village, hopefully the fish start to stack in there soon.

When fishing there do you look to fish the bottom or chase bait balls on the finder?

Ugh, refreshing on here makes the comment happen twice. I do a bit of both, but the bait balls hold the fish, and if I see suspended marks that look bigger than your normal candlefish, I'll run one rigger chasing marks.

That is exactly what we were doing. Only at times there were no marks to chase.

I'm not in the derby so I don't want to deal with all of it. Too lazy. I may go after some Walleye at Banks.

Hi Andy I know that son of yours; he's a fishing maniac! Nice fish for sure. Will be headed to the mouth of the Deschutes the end of the month for some Kings hopefully. Tight lines brother - Alan
