I started off by heading towards the creek mouth near the park at the south entrance. I wanted to look around and see what it looked like. All these years, I've yet to explore that area. Saw a couple of people fishing on the bank there. I just did a quick scan around and moved on. First cast @ about 7AM at a weedy point with crank, swimbait, and dropshot. Felt nips from small fishies. Moved up the lake and hit another point with same results.

Went across the lake to another point and fan casting with the swimbait. Felt the same nips. As I'm making the cast into deeper water, I feel a solid bite. Set the hook and THUNK, it barely moves., with the drag pulling out instead. I held for a second to make sure it wasnt snagged onto something. I feel headshake. Hmmm. It starts coming at me and I start to reel faster. It breaks the surface and FFFUUUU, I see a beast of a greenie! It goes back down. I loosen the drag a bit since this is only 7# test. Well, the fish immediately heads to the bottom in about 10-12' of water. I cant see the damn thing. It has me pinned to the bottom. I lift up and nothing happens except the drag spinning a bit. The fish isnt moving anywhere. I no longer feel headshakes. I'm thinking it wrapped me around some weeds. I just maintain pressure, then lower the rod down just slightly for some give. I feel the line pulling a bit. I pull back up to maintain pressure and I feel it release from the bottom. I wrangle it back up to the surface. I can see it expanding it's mouth trying to through the lure out. Guided it into the net! YES! Lure pops right out without me touching it. 5.35# LMB. Pretty nice first fish for the day.

I continue fan casting the area and landed me a dink SMB and perch. Then tossed the DS around to see what else, but nothing but nippers.

Covering more ground, catching more small SMB on the dropshot. Even landed a pretty pumpkinseed too.

7 SMB. 3 were about 1.5-1.75# i think. The others were close to #1 or less. 1 pumpkinseed. 1 perch, and 1 LMB.
2 landed on swimbait, rest dropshot.

Congrats on the green monster! That's a giant, and it sounds like she tried every trick in the book to shake you off. Thanks for the great report.

Maybe it is time for a bit heavier line.

Possibly. I do like the suppleness of using the 7# test on my spinning gear. Actually, it might be 6#. One or the other. Either way, I rarely break off due to low test compared to bad/old knots. I typically dont throw this setup near a lot of heavy cover.

Great fish. Congrats. That's a bigger fish than the one today that wrapped around a piling, but finaly convinced it to unwind and come into the boat - only a pounder.lol Ya 7 lb test is a little light, even for me, unless I'm dropshotting or slip shotting, or a grub.

Your swimbait success gives me an idea. Next time I'm out I'll try slow trolling my umbrella rig along some deep weed lines. 5 Keitechs, 3 with hooks.

FishingFool- I was wondering how often you see carp out on Sammamish?

Carp are everywhere along the bank. There's usually 2-4 in a group.
