7/23/2018 3:31:00 PMI found a Scotty 1050 today on CL, heading out to pick it up. Got my Universal H-rail Mount, etc. (-:
Headed back out to Lake Samish this morning to do some Kokanee Fishing. Action was not as hot as it was 2 weeks ago, but still quite a bit of action today. Arrived, got inspected, launched, and started fishing about 5:45. Perfect morning.
Started 1 line with an Elgin Fishing Gods Tooth Spoon in 50/50 kokanee, 12 inches behind a moonjelly Macks Double D Dodger. Ran this line at 50-53 feet. The other lines I started with a Fuschia Reli Lures kokanee fly, again 12 inches of leader trailing a prototype Elgin Fishing dodger. The fly got all of the action right off the bat. Getting 4 on and landing 2. Nothing on my go-to 50/50 Gods Tooth. Thinking maybe pink was the color they wanted, I switched to a pink top Gods Tooth, and started getting action on that, and would for the rest of the day. Bite was slow for some reason until about 9am, when it suddenly turned on. Fish stopped hitting the fly, so I changed it out to a prototype Gods Tooth Spoon that will hopefully be out before year end. The fish just hammered it immediately. I got 4 fish on within about 5 minutes, landing 2.
I ended my day with my 10 fish limit. I had what I assume was a big cutthroat on at one point, as my rod was completely bent and the fish was digging instead of thrashing around like kokanee do. Unfortunately it popped off before I was able to get a look at it. Also landed what I assume was a pikeminnow. I wasn't aware that they were in the lake, and it didn't look like a peamouth. Fish was about 15 inches or so.
Video shows the action from today and I go over my set up for the day as well. Tight lines!
