I hit the lake later in the afternoon as everything was cooling down (about 70 degrees of air temp on a day that topped 90). It was a while since I last fished Boren, so I went on the North end to cast off of a public dock. The area over there was full of lily-pads by the inlet stream and, from my experience, full of bass. I had a rapala (trout pattern, though it is good all round) and dug through the bushes to get to the dock.

Unbeknownst to me, the dock was removed a year or so ago to protect the mouth of the stream as a "critical wetland area". I was disappointed, but nonetheless went to the park to cast off of the dock. I began to pull in the rapala closer to shore in the middle of the dock and almost immediately got a nibble. I got a couple more nibbles over the next five minutes until I pulled out a nice plump perch. I took the hook out and released it back into the lake.

In the next half an hour, I had pulled out 3 fat crappies, a stocker trout, and a handful of perch.

I released all but one of the crappies. It was bony but really good with a side of potatoes. Boren is a good spot to fish, you just need to know where to cast your line.

Thanks for the report! Good to know that there is some good fishing to be had there. I've fished there in the winter with no luck, but it sounds like right now would be a good time to try again.

I would recommend taking a raft out on Boren, it lets you access much more of the lake and fish than off of the dock. Good luck!
