Spent the last 5 nights at Baker (Swift Creek campground) targeting sockeye. Here's how it went:
Tues morning - skunked
Wed morning - skunked
Thurs morning - 2 limits
Thurs night - caught 1 lost 2
Fri morning - caught 2 lost 2
Sat morning - skunked
Overall, I would say it was pretty slow fishing which might be tied to us not getting on the water early enough on some days. Most guys we talked to also either had 1 fish or no fish. Tues and Wed we didn't make an effort to get on the water at 1st light and we spend some time trying to locate fish. We started around 8:30am and tried the normal spots and depths around Noisy Creek and down by Horseshoe Cove both days and just couldn't find any fish except bull trout (released) and a kokanee. Someone we talked to said he went 2/7 fishing closer to the shoreline trolling at 35 feet at 1st light so that was our plan for Thurs. morning. We woke up earlier and had lines out by 5:30am west of Noisy Creek. 1st fish came at 25' soon after we had the lines out and about 30 mins later we had our 2nd fish. We ran over those spots once more without any takedowns so we moved on. We started marking a pile of fish North of Noisy Creek in about 35'-40' of water and this is where we had constant hookups and limited by 10am with 6 fish. The best thing is there were no other boats around. We probably looked crazy trolling where no other boats were at but it paid off that day. All fish came at 25' - 35' of wire close to the shoreline in shallow water. Thurs night and fri morning we hit the same spot with other family members and managed only a few more fish so they must have moved on. Sat morning we had to pack our things so we didn't get on the water until 8:30 and while we had a few bites, nothing would stick. The fish taxi was transporting fish just about every day we were there which was pretty fun to watch. 9 sockeye was the total for the 5 day trip. Chrome dodgers, 12" 20lb leaders and 1.5" pink hoochies tipped with cured shrimp. Lessons learned: be on the water at 1st light, don't be afraid to fish spots where there are no other boats, even in shallow water, hug the shoreline and sockeye do bite in the evening.
