Went to the 10th street fishing docks right across from jetty island when my brother and I got down there there were unmarked crab pots in the water and a couple of kids down at the end of the dock. I set up my rig and walked down to let them know they summer crab in this area did not open until the 30th. They didn’t do anything so I just got back to fishing (I didn’t have my phone on me) in about the fifth cast I got a bunch of quick hits right in a row, it felt like a flounder bot the curly tail but not the hook. Then the kids parents came down to the dock I asked if the crab pots in the water were theirs they said yes and I repeated myself: the summer crab season does not open until the 30th the guy said it had been open for a while, since June 4th I told him that he might want to check the WDFW website.
He said that the WDFW refs were wrong. I didn’t want to fight over regs and ruin the rest of my evening so we ended up talking about crabing, fishing and hunting. No bites for the rest of the evening.

I am pretty new to fishing in he salt even though I have lived in Washington my whole life and don’t have a boat. So I still have a lot of learning to do.

Thanks for the post Thunder fenix. I am limited to a small lake boat but also enjoy fishing and crabbing off the KP in MA 8-2. Crabbing usually opens around the 2nd of July and ends on Labor Day weekend. The penalties (and record) for crabbing when it's closed is expensive and stays on file for many years. Being minors, that makes the parents responsible. I always keep the regs book in my tackle box. That way there's no squabbling over correct dates. Can't wait to hit the pier soon. Have you tried the KP pier?

You were right thunder fenix crabbing opens June 30 and close sept 3. There is also a wdfw app which is very helpful, you can access everything you need at your fingertips.

I have not tried the kayak Point pier but I do hear that many people are successful with crabbing there so I should check it out! Thanks for the suggestion!
