Well, the weeknights of having lake whatcom to myself are gone. I realized as soon as I pulled in that things were different, with 80+ degree weather and the kids out of school the beach was buzzing with swimmers and the ski boats were lined up at the AIS station. The lake was full of boats and jet skis, and I've seen less surface swell fishing out of westport at times. Several ski boats went at full tilt just 20-30' from us, making me glad to have an inflatable, and not a cartopper that would have surely taken on water.
We started out by finding a nice school of kokanee and jigging them, which was getting a lot of interest based on the fish finder, but not a lot of strikes. Managed to put 3 in the box that way and lost several others. The bite really turned off after and I could see the fish were scattering instead of schooling, so we set up to troll and got our other 7 in the box doing that. Finally got some 12+" fish out of this lake, but had some 9" fish as well, seems like there are two separate age classes. Took about 4 hours to limit, slow but steady.
Will be back again on bad weather days and mornings, when the jet ski hatch is less prominent.
