Our 3rd NWFR Members Adventure at Zeballos, Vancouver Island with Reel Obsession Sport Fishing was another huge success! The fishing is kicking into high gear and Rob Holman and I came home with full coolers of delicious halibut, ling cod, bottom fish, and Chinook salmon.

We fished three days as guests of owner Adrian O'Connor. Adrian again showed us why this destination is so great.

Day One we ran offshore and anchored about 7 miles out in the ocean on a 200 foot hump. Geared up for halibut and waited for the scent to bring them in. We were fishing with Dave Mason, the voice of NWFR, and his wife Doreen. Highlights of the day - Dave and me both hooking the same halibut (I gave it to Dave since he felt the bite first and it was his first halibut). Doreen got her first hali, and shortly thereafter Rob and I doubled up for our large hali. You get to keep one large up to 115cm (around 50 pounds) and one smallie, under 65cm. his year we couldn't find any smallies, they were all large! That's OK, we still had a LOT of halibut fillets!

Our second day Adrian put us to work on the Chinook. We fished the beautiful Ferrer Rocks point area, in 50-70 feet of water right along the kelp and rocky shoreline. Again, a day of firsts for Dave and Doreen as we came away with some beautiful Chinook. Even with it being early in the season it was still good fishing. Should be a great year of Chinook fishing!

Day Three was just Rob and myself. Adrian took us trolling up some lings and bottom fish, and then back to Ferrer Rocks to fill out our Chinook travel limits. Another amazing day. We hit an afternoon bite and Adrian expertly circled back on a group of Chinook as we slammed out a limit in a fast 30 minute bite window. Very impressive angling and boat maneuvering skills as we again fished right up against the kelp.

As has been our experience, the food at Reel Obsession Lodge was amazing and the staff as always very pleasant and friendly. I personally love the seclusion of Zeballos, walking the small town is my favorite after dinner past time.

If you ever get the chance this is an amazing fishing adventure, within a day's drive and ferry ride from Seattle. The members that joined us has a great time also. Well worth it. Thanks Adrian for another great fishing trip!

Looks like an awesome trip!! I'd be curious to know where those clipped nooks were hatched. Do they have a scanning program up there?
