Decided to break out the spin rod and pontoon boat and make the five minute drive. On arrival, there was not another sole on the lake; a couple of guys on the pier. I started working the lake counter clockwise, with a curly tail worm and after about an hour with no results, began switching to topwater lures and still could not coax anything out. As I rounded the far corner, I changed to Senkos which I've gotten away from and soon began to pick up fish from around the docks at a pretty consistent rate. The biggest for the morning was a fat three pounds and I know I lost one as large if not larger. Both smallies and buckets made up my catch. What has been a blast lately is skipping across the lilypads with a weedless 7" curlytail worm (black/chartreuse) and coaxing the biggies to attack it. I watch alot of anglers ignore fishing right in the pads for obvious reasons but let's face it... these bass are cover crazy, especially with any sunshine! Ended up thumbing 13 fish and lost quite a few more. One of those I lost was quite memorable. I skipped my bait under a dock and on the fall, watched my line suddenly stop, then begin moving right. As I slowly took up the slack in prep for hitting it hard, the resistance remained there. At what I thought was the perfect moment to hit it, I jerked hard and my hook came flying back towards me. I reeled up and discovered my 5" Senko had been bitten clean through right behind the hook's bend. Never had that happen to me before!
