I'm catching up on my Rufus Woods trips (3). This one is on Triploids.
Fishing was poor in numbers but great for size. I talked to the Colville Tribe inspector and many triploids were stocked in Rufus last year due to warm water in the pens. Fish were also planted in many of the lakes around the area.
My experience was that the 2 lb fish that are the mainstay are really reduced to where it is kind of rare to catch them. However, there are bigger fish this year. On this trip I caught a 10 lb and two 6 lb. fish. Then a bunch of 8" ones that were all released. Caught all up river from Nespelem Creek inlet with gold and black Jointed Rapalas that were the small size. Slow fishing but great fight from the fish. I was trolling. Kind of different to feel the pull from a much larger trout caught on the troll. So much different than the lazy pull of a walleye. 10 lb is my largest Triploid in the last 2 years. It's tail definitely labeled it as a fish recently from the pens. People at the launch thought it was a salmon!!!! boy those things are fat.
Pics are on my phone and I'll finally figure out how to link to the site here.
