Went to Rufus on Sunday to avoid the crowds on Roosevelt. On the water by 1400 and had the first eye on my second cast; ended up being the biggest fish of the day at 6 lbs. She was a spawned out hen caught on a blade bait. She and most of the other 22 eyes I caught were hooked on the downriver side of the island. Most productive bait on the day was a red or black jig with a green pumpkin/red flake grub or a pumpkin colored worm. The edge of the current was key for me although I did see a few boats trolling; including one with planer boards. Water temp was 54 and half of the hens I caught were also spawned out; this included several 4 and 5 lbers. Only one 14 inch dink was boated as well as a small burbot. The water is high and there is a very strong current coming out of Grand Coulee. Kept 5 to eat.

Nice post spawn fishing. Fish are probably up behind structure to find baitfish.
I was there before the weekend and the amount of flow took away at least 50% of my normal spots to fish. Also it is hard to control the speed of the drift with that much flow.

I'm new to fishing walleye on Rufus. Where is the island I see referenced is several posts?

BadRad,

If you launch at Seaton Grove and go down river you can't miss the island. The down river side right behind the island gives you multiple areas of current edges and humps to try and locate fish. The launch is run by the Army Corps of Engineers so you don't have to pay, or display a discover pass.
