Made the long drive from Olympia to Conconully and it was worth it! We fished Thursday afternoon and landed 9. Friday we fished the morning then took a 2 hr break and fished the afternoon catching our limit of 10. Saturday morning we got a late start and caught 4 more. We would probably have caught limits all 3 days but we counted released rainbows against our totals as we were using bait (shoepeg corn soaked in bloody tuna gel and oil(. Chartreuse was a popular color. Melissa hand ties the wedding rings we use.

Fish were caught in 30-40 ft depths on the downriggers. We only ran 2 poles to keep from tangling long lines on tight turns. It's a narrow lake. The brief periods we fished at shallow depths caught nothing but rainbows we were trying to avoid.

These fish are big and feisty. Almost all that were hooked raced to the surface to put on aerial displays. We lost a few but had good success landing most by just being patient. There was little doubt when a koke was on versus a stocked trout, most ripped the downrigger clip off themselves.

Awesome little gem of a lake for kokanee this year. We had to hunt a bit to find them but seemed to hook up a fish about every 20-30 minutes.

Saturday the parade of boats, tubers, jet skis and holiday craziness likely affected the bite.

We stayed at Shady Pines in a cabin. Nothing fancy but adequate and the staff was nice.

I was almost reluctant to share this report because I'm not sure how much pressure this lake can handle. For those of you who can make it over there 16-18 inch fatties are the norm.

Thanks for the report. I’m thinking we will have some 20” Kokanee by the end of the season.

Great looking fish. We're you on the upper lake ? I heard. They were smaller?

Yes we were on the upper lake. The lower lake has more trout and smaller kokanee from reports locally.

nice job and report. We had to skip our planned trip D/T work issues. Would have loved to get up there. Such a nice little town. They need the tourism. The lake can handle it, it's too far to get the heavy numbers of anglers you see at Chelan and elsewhere.

Hope you get to make it out there this year Mike! Just be sure to bring your ID if you want to buy beer at the local store. They can be a real stickler and I am almost 52 with a grey beard! :-)

Nice job out there! I brought home 9 for 2 days. I was in my kayak thursday and friday. Amazing fish for sure. Day 1 I went 5-13 and 4-6 day 2. Spent the last 2 nights smoking fish! The bellies were awesome on those fatties!!

I saw a couple Kayaks out there and gave some gear to someone who lost theirs. Nice work!

Great looking catch and a perfect weather trip! Did you happen to notice if the little RV park/Cabins at the upper lake were back open again? That whole situation there with the Bureau of Reclamation VS the former tenant of the RV park is quite interesting and wrought with local politics. The upshot is that the public ended up losing a nice little RV facility on the upper lake.

Looked like everything was open and filling up for the holiday weekend up there to me. But I can't speak to the operation of the park itself you are referring to. We stayed at Shady Pines for the second year while we were there.

the campsite on the upper lake is all built and finished but not open yet due to a lack of water/ability to get a good well going so far...
