This trip has been on the radar for awhile. Pretty excited to hear that a public launch was approved for this lake finally! But we decided that we didn't want to wait that long. My buddy and I hiked our float tubes all the way in from the access point by the road where everyone goes shooting.
Had some high hopes of catching some kokanee and large rainbows that have had no fishing pressure for years. Tried trolling a variety of lures tipped with worms 1.5-3 colors down. Not even a bump. Tried switching it in pursuit of some bows. Had a portable fish finder with me and marked lots of fish 25-45ft near the bottom. Again, tried a variety of presentations with not the slightest bit of interest. Maybe they are bass?
I did manage a few SMB and a perch. Saw tons of young bass and bluegill swimming in shallow water.
I've heard that most of the kokanee are caught on the North side, but with the wind we didn't make it that far up the lake today. Anybody have any intel about the rainbows in this lake? Seems like there should be some monsters in there by now.
Still a great trip overall! Came across a couple of deer on the way in as well as a pair of bald eagles nesting near the shore. Can't wait for that launch to open!
