Well....First trip this year to Meridian to try my luck on kokanee. It was a good outing but in my foggy old man forgetfulness I forgot to load the downrigger into the boat. Without it, I caught no kokanee. What saved the day was a boatload of trout gear and a lake still full of trout. I had my limit of those in 3 hours. The skiers made sure the fishermen were off the lake by 10am

Forgetting your downrigger is one thing, having it fall off your boat on the way to the lake is another! Had that happen to me a few years ago, had just bought a nice Scotty electric! :-( Oh well, glad to hear that you didn't have a total waste of a day, congrats on the good trout fishing!

You got me all excited with the 4 star kokanee report. I have fished the lake targeting kokanee dozens of times over the last few years with no kokanee to show for it. I dont think they are surviving after theyre stocked. The last one I have caught of any size was april 2016. The 2014 and 2015 seasons were hot, then 2016 season and on ... nothing. Good luck

I'm with you Sideburns. I long to catch kokanee in Meridian as I remember it 10 years ago. There is all ways hope it will come back.

Im curious now. Did you fish the lake before and after 10 years ago, and did you notice a sudden decline in catches back then? I have only been fishing it since 2014.

I've been fishing this lake for kokanee since 2007. It produced kokanee on a regular basis until 2015, when we had that really hot summer. Since then the kokanee are sparse.

My observation too...good fishing until 2015 then nada the last few years. MeNwhile cormorant population on the lake appears to have quadrupled. Me thinks cormorants like Kokanee as much as I do and they are better at catching given that they make the effort daily!
