Few retired anglers compete with the crowds on week-ends but I had the urge to make a few casts this morning. I didn't want to compete at the launch ramps so I just grabbed a couple rods, my tackle box, a camera and took off for Long Lake to make a few casts off the dock. There were several rigs with trailers parked in the WDFW lot.
Actually the launch has a couple fair casting targets. The rock rip-rap was the site of my biggest Long Lake bass -- hooked on a large plastic worm several years ago. The dock itself can hold a few fish and that big hole that is blown out by boaters driving their boats onto trailers. I started casting with the big plastic worm -- no hits. I then tried a crank bait into the blow out hole and about the 2nd cast a nice 14 3/4 inch bass grabbed it and it was a solid hook up. I have never been a fan of an arm-bass pic so I brought him into shallow water and snapped a quick pic before he was gently released. Not much action but - nice to catch the first bass of the year -- especially for an old Geezer nearly 89.

"89"! I hope I make it to that ripe old age. Those craw pattern crankbaits are a favorite of mine. Nice to hear that you are still getting a chance to wet a line. I haven't been out yet this year. Got sidetracked fixing up an old car and it has replaced my fishing urge (at least temporarily).
Take care Bob, and tight lines.

Thanks Bothell Bassman. I like old cars too but never thought I had the varied skills needed to re-build one. My very first car was a 1929 Model A that I bought during my High School Days.
