Giving this a 5 only because the fish was huge & the run was epic....other than that, very slow day! Fished solo today with all my friends (literally nobody could go today). Had a solid day yesterday so kept boat in water at Cap Sante. Headed to secret spot by 9am (old man time)...low slack at noon & had to leave by noon. Cold/wet/breezy all morning & yesterday's fishy bait on the screen was gone. Because I had to leave at noon, figured I'd stick it out with 4-5 other boats. Nothing at 115'/110'/105'/100'/90'---all trolls...decided on 80' for last pass. Went 100 yards south of the can on a south troll & bam..off the clip & a couple good romps....then, exactly as a seal would take it, began literally spooling me. By the time I got the boat turned around, 3/4 of my line was gone & still peeling. I have been sealed so many times this year, I was cussing loudly as I began the chase. Took about 10 minutes to finally get on top of it...wanted badly to drown it...at least get my flasher back. Literally drug the thing to the surface & to my amazement, was a big king...and a hatch...and, no seal. Into the net it slid...thick & long (36")! What a great way to end the season...Irish Creme CK 5" off the deck was the trick. Goofy looking poogies..like a cross between a herring/candlefish in the belly...about 1.5" long. Pumped for the rest of the season!
