I got to the Gissberg Ponds early Friday morning about 8 a.m. when the fog was still over the water. I wasn't expecting much since I know that these ponds are quite popular. I was wrong. I caught 6 largemouth bass in about 3 or 4 hours using rooster tails. They weren't trophies by any means, they were just fun to catch. The 3 biggest ones were between 4 and 6 inches.

I went back to the ponds the next day expecting the same type of action around 10 a.m. Unfortunately, it was overcast most of the day and the fish just weren't biting. Rooster tails yielded no results so I switched to fishing with a bobber and worm. It was about this time that I saw a large bass swim by. I was completely taken by surprise. That's not something I'd expect to see at the ponds. This fish was probably at least 8 to 10 inches long. After reminding myself to breathe, I grabbed my pole with the rooster tail on it and cast in the direction of the big bass. The bass didn't care for my lure. It just sorta lazily swam past it into the depths. I would have liked to have landed it, but it's ok. I know it's there. Maybe next time. All in all, not a completely wasted day. I caught 3 small bass using bobber and worm.
