Decided to venture out to Offut Lake this Saturday with the family. I was pleasantly surprised by the weather report as it was finally sunny or at least not raining. We arrived at 9:10 and put in. The wind was very aggressive in the first half of the morning, probably blowing around 12-15mph. Several boats were already heading in due to this.
We had most of our luck in between the small spit of land that sticks out into the water on the resort side and the dock with the tan water slide on it on the launch side.
We started running a j-7 jointed Rapala with a red belly and gold sides on one rod and a red wedding ring with a bronze spinner on the other rod. Both rods were locked in on downriggers. I was setting the down rigger balls around 10-15 ft deep with a 60-80ft setback.
The first fish came in on the Rapala closely followed by a fish on the wedding ring. Then the wedding ring started showing a bit more action so I swapped the J-7 for a green wedding ring with green flash smilie blade.
The green ring was the ticket. It was almost none stop action, out fishing the red wedding ring on the other rigger. Everything was tipped with night crawler. I noticed the downriggers seemed to really help me boat more fish than just using weight.
All in all a really fun day. The second half of the morning the wind died down and the sun came back out.
I am curious though where to park with a boat trailer when that little launch parking lot fills up. Any ideas?! Haha
Cheers and thanks for the read.
