We fished Banks Friday 4/20, wanted to try out some new gear we tied up. This time of year can be extremely unpredictable about where the biting walleye are located. We started out early morning fishing 30 fow we were marking tons of fish but nothing biting so we move out to 40-45 fow, there were far fewer fish on the bottom at this depth but we did pick up a few smaller walleye and a few small perch, all were released. By now it was about noon, the sun was high in the sky no clouds in sight and not a breath of wind. We had been changing colors and style of gear all morning with out any one thing working better than anything else. We moved out to 60 fow and as I always do, the deeper I fish this lake the darker colors I use. I put a very dependable lure, Perch pattern OG-1 Oldgoat lure rigged with a slowdeath hook. In the next hour I boated six fish including a 5.4 pound Burbot ( I hope the pictures will upload). We rigged up another Oldgoat for my wife, hers hardly hit the bottom and she had a 20" walleye. In the coarse of the next couple hours it was pretty much non stop action although a lot of fish were on the small size, we released all that were not bleeding, if they were bleeding they went home with us. About 3:00 a slight breeze came up, just enough to create a ripple on the water, after that it was like somebody turned off the fish switch. We were still marking massive schools on the bottom but nothing would bite. We ended the day taking home the one Burbot, eight Walleye and one Perch.
