Whoo-Hoo, I got to go fishing! Ok, I only had an hour so I a quick trip to Clear Lake was just what the Dr. would have ordered. I know, self-medication is dangerous… When I arrived at the lake at about 11:30 there were 3 other rigs there. Not wanting to be part of the crowd I set up between the boat ramps. My weapon of choice was your basic Power Bait setup. I was using a lightweight spinning rod spooled with 4# mono, ¼ ounce egg sinker, small swivel, and a small treble hook with just enough Power Bait to cover the hook. My Leader length process is as follows. Typically, I start with a 48” leader; then I keep hacking bits of it off it until I have a bite. On this trip I ended up with a 30” leader when I got the first bite. From that point it was hammer time.
Once dialed in, my hour at the lake was a nonstop trout-a-polusa. I had numerous bites that didn’t stick, lost a few and got my 5 fish limit in short order. The fish weren’t monsters, going maybe 9-10” but what they lacked in size they made up for it in tenacity. Each of them made a few nice runs and occasionally went airborne. To be honest I had a blast and it was a wonderful mini-adventure.
