Hit Rattlesnake after work today. Left Bellevue and it was nice. Heading east it was dark and cloudy. Just before I get to the gate, driving hail starts up so I parked at the launch hoping it would blow by and that the lake would calm down. Waited and waited. Finally I drove off and make one loop around and checked it out again. It seemed to be getting better so off I went about 5pm.

Turned out quite good as the lake started to lay down. Fishing was good early on with a huge gap of little action. Swallows everywhere with a visual hatch going on. Strikes were limited and most came off, then it started back up about 7 :15. Ended up with 11 fish per hour.

Gold was the color and in fact it caught what I think is a Whitefish about at 7:45 not go far from the launch.
Anyone else know of these in Rattlesnake?

What looked to me a turn around go home outing turned out pretty darn good.

I caught one of those last fall in Rattlesnake. The one I caught was much smaller, more like 6". My best guess is that it is some type of chub fish, but I was never able to satisfactorily pin-point the species.

Does that fish have a "sucker mouth"? Its hard to tell in the net. If so I think it is a white sucker (aka common sucker) (Catostomus comersoni). Im not sure if they are native to washington, we have several others that are including salish sucker and large scale sucker, but that one seems too silver to be either of those.

id agree, its a common sucker I think as well. they are native to the state and look similar to pikeminnow in the body like that, but the mouth does have that "sucker look". they are in many lakes throughout the state... Lake Wa, Sammamish, etc etc etc.

great day on the eater and tight lines!

100% Sucker Mouth.....Color has some Gold to it....zoom in on the scales towards the tail area. The Gold color can be seen. It stood out more in person as ai notice this right away.

Thanks for the help with IDing this fish. Why would a Sucker hit a minnow type of bait?

Yup! Have had them take spoons in the Snoqualmie fishing for winter Steelhead. Not often, but still.

That is a large scale sucker.
