I went to Lake Cassidy today and figured get a few hours in before it rained or wind picked up. Arrived 10:15am parking lot pretty full and one guy fishing from shore said he got two trout. I launched and headed left...water level was way up and no lily pads visible just reeds and branches. Noticed half way down old dock had gotten away and was against the shore. Have to fish it later in year if it stays there. Water was pretty cold and started with spinner bail white and top water perch minnow #7 rapala. Got no bites along shoreline or further out swimming both spinnerbait and minnow back. Didn't see any trout jumping either. Did see blue heron fly over to new dock and claimed his spot. I cut into cove and wind was a little less...tried some casts on both sides of cove and thought I saw a swirl at back of cove...sure enough cast to back with top water couple twtiches and roll and fish on....good fight and 11"...FBY First bass of the year. Tried couple more cast and by tree branches another roll and fish on! This one was bigger and fought pretty well...got him in and had snagged him on top of his nose. 12". He splashed shortly after I let him go and had third nibble where fish followed the minnow but didn't take it saw the wake. Continued down the launch side to north trying close to shore and coves no luck. Made it big dock and hit that cove looked promising but hadn't fished so casting was off and ended up snagging myself a few times...finally got a decent cast and let minnow sit...one twitch then 2nd and another bite...this one was bigger 12.5". Tried rest of cove on both sides no bites...went to far end and ran into another fisherman who said it was 51 degrees water temp and he was having no luck fishing for crappie. Saw couple more boats same story no luck.
Still pretty cold only got the 3 left at 2:20pm. But nice to get first bass of the year before trout season starts.
