First time out in my new Kayak and decided to go to Rattlesnake as it is only 10 mins from my house. Only brought one lure as I was really there to break in the kayak. Trolled a Kastmaster up and down the center of the lake and had lots of hits. Got 5 to the boat, the rest shook off at the surface.

Was sunny and had better action when the sun would hide behind the clouds.

Didn't have to fight off the eagle mentioned by another poster!

Nice looking fish for Rattlesnake.
What was the length on that?

I didn't have a tape measure with me but I sat down with one when I got home and based on the pic I think it was in the 16-18" range.

That's a great fish to catch in Rattlesnake, nice work! It's about 10 from my house as well so I've fished it quite a bit this year and nothing quite that large. The eagle perches up on a couple different trees on the far side of the lake (opposite of the launch). If you fish the middle he'll leave you alone but if you work that shoreline he gets greedy!

Also, what depth were you running the Kastmaster?

Not really sure what depth, would just cast it behind me and troll at a leisurely pace. I don't have a fish finder yet so don't know how fast I was going.

Nice fish! I am looking to hit this lake again soon with my new lures that I think will do well. Last time there I caught a few trolling Kastmasters too. I also did ok off the shore before I got my toon. Got a 21” off of a Kastmaster but was quite skinny compared to your fish. What size did you troll? I was using 1/8th mainly. I am considering it tomorrow if the wind stays down.

I went pretty large, was using a 1/2 oz rainbow pattern. Was out again yesterday trolling the same lure and lost count of how many fish I pulled in although they were all smaller ones this time, max was probably 12". I brought my fly rod along this time and did a couple circuits trolling a woolly bugger and hooked up immediately and had a few more hits before eventually moving back to the kastmaster. All in all another great day!

I'll be out again today if anyone wants to wave me down.

If you don't mind me asking, where on the lake is most productive for you? Is it closer to the launch, farther from the launch, right of the launch, left of the launch, close to shore, near the center, etc. I was just curious because it would be pretty hit or miss for me when I'd fish in the fall.

So far it has been most productive right up the middle. I get my exercise trolling back and forth. Today it was a bit better closer to the far shore (opposite the ramp), same up and down. Did the the eagle out today but he didn't bother me! Today it was a bit of a slow start but picked up around 2:00 PM, ended up with 6 fish netted (I throw them all back) today.
