Hit the lower Columbia in search of the delicious and elusive spring chinook this morning out of Cathlamet. Trolled cut plug herring, no flasher. Just after the start of our second pass the rod gets buried! I grab it and hand it to my son who has never caught a chinook. We cleared the rods and got the net while he fought it like a pro right to the net. 13 pounds on the scale and needless to say he was ecstatic to have landed his first king! Only saw one other fish landed out of about 20 boats around us and the fish checker said ours was the 4th fish to come in from 30 boats at 1pm. Tough fishing for sure but a beautiful day to be on the water.
