I went out for steelies this morning. I fished my favourite circuit from first light until 10am. Visibility was around 5 feet of vis and low water conditions. Perfect swing water. First run i get to had no one on it which was good to see. I started fishing with my singlehand spey 7wt set up. (Opst heads are wicked and dont be shy about giving them a try. Lots of fun.) I didnt get any fish on the fly, next up i tried my centerpin set up with a 1/16oz black and purple jig. No luck on that either. Put on a bcsteel spoon on my spinning rod and on my 2nd swing with that i get a train wreck of a take. Very jarring take. This was a good fight. Got it to hand after solid 5 minute fight. Really decent fish, released after a brief photo op. I took a small break to let the pool rest for a few minutes then casted again in the same exact spot swung in the exact same way, and i got another hit. A bit spunkier but smaller, slid it to hand and released. Again i rested the run then made a few more swings nothing so i circled back up to the top of the run and began going over the run again from the head to the tail. I got back down to the tailout again and boom, hook up again, the fish comes out of the water then straight towards me , and got slacklined... Ohh well thats how it goes. I finished fishing the next few pockets on my circuit with no luck but the sun was shining and my music was playing so it was great, i really enjoyed myself out there this morning. Didn't get encroached on or see too many people out there. Ended the morning at 10:00 am with 2/3 on steelhead.
