I decided I need a change from trout fishing and took the day off with my friend Warren to make my first trip out to Port Townsend in search of blackmouth. We launched the boat at the Boat Haven Marina, it was a gorgeous day to be on the water. We started just after 8:30 and headed to mid channel bank. We hooked up with our first fish somewhere around 10AM trolling at 125ft and it was a nice wild fish around the 10lb mark, we gently unhooked and watched that nice salmon swim away. Warren caught the second fish of the day it was around the 8-9lb range and came at 120 ft. I caught the last fish of the day which was a small keeper at 130ft and it put up one heck of a fight for it's size. all the fish were caught on a herring aid coho killer that was trolled behind a green flasher with prism tape and and orange stripe. These fish were putting a hurt of the candlefish that for sure. It was a great time fishing in a new spot.
