Another wonderful morning at one of my favorite beaches on Lake Roosevelt,, Geezer beach! Little wind and the sun would poke thru as time passed. I was the first fisherman, arriving at 7:30 AM. My first fish, a 20 inch native, had to be released. A short time later I caught one 15 inches and it went into the cooler. The next one broke the leader only a foot or two from land! My last fish of the day was the best! A beautiful Rainbow of 18 inches.

As the morning progressed, three other fisherman arrived. One caught a 15 incher for his first fish. When I left at 10:00 AM total net pen fish for the four of us were 3, total wild fish released were 8! Maybe this rule of releasing all native fish should be revisited and revised!

There is a controversy between the Colville Tribe and WDFW as to whether a Tribal issued license is required to fish Geezer Beach. Personally, I purchase a Tribal license but I wish the State and Tribe would get together and make the requirement for a license, either or! Your comments would be greatly appreciated!

Pictures are of the 18 inch fish and an Eagle that I spotted in a tree near the Grand Coulee Dam.

Nice fish. Although I'm more impressed by seeing the green grass.

Geezer Beach is on the south side of the river just above the dam. To get there while driving through Grand Coulee you need to take Roosevelt Way ( the road that crosses the river below the dam) up the hill and go straight through the fenced area to the security gate, at the guard station turn left, the road will wind around to the top of the dam. Just past the fenced in storage area there is a access road to your right, that takes you to the parking area just above the river. With the water draw down more of the beach is exposed every day so you can drive down to the waters edge.

As a Okanogan County local, we have always gone ahead and had the tribal fishing license when we go to Geezer beach. Its better safe than sorry. It would be outstanding if there was some clarification however from my understanding it is required there.

There is no controversy. If you remain below the 1310' line you a tribal permit is not required. However, unless you access Geezer Beach by boat, you have to transit reservation property to access it, and that requires a tribal permit. If you don't know where the 1310' line is, safest course of action is to possess a tribal permit. ;-)
