It was time to give Rufus Woods another go after a couple of poor outings in December and January. Al and I launched at Seton Grove and had lines in the water at 7:30 near the upper net pens. We had good current which we were hoping to see and we landed a nice 5 lb triploid 30 minutes later. We bounced tube jigs off the bottom while drifting the bar. We ended up boating 11 fish over 6 hours, all but one C&R. Almost all the fish came as we drifted off the bar in 30-60 FOW and white was the color of the day. Water temp was 38.5.

I had to give this a #5 rating after Al's last fish tipped the scales at 18 lbs 10 ounces. This was a new personal best for Al and the boat. We had 4 other fish between 5 and 7 pounds. As usual it was another great day on the water! I don't think Al will remember this as the day I caught 6 fish to his 5 but I will periodically remind him.

I really need to learn this whole drift jigging technique deal obviously. I've tried it for walleye with very limited success. Maybe I need more responsive/sensitive rods which seem to be out of my price range. If anyone would like to share some knowhow or video links which accurately depict this method I would be very greatful.

We had a member and his wife who were experts on the jig fishing technique at RW. Search reports for bluefin louie and you might get some good info. Haven't seen a report him in quite a while... :(

Isn't that a record size trout for this lake ? Wow is right.

Look up the state record, same lake. Just another 11 or so pounds of chunky rainbow. Doesn't take away from the fact that the fish pictured above is a fatty! Nice work boys.

Okay so maybe this second largest in this lake. That's still amazing.

I don't think I've ever seen over 3,200 views on a fishing report. That's a record too!

I'm amazed Mike, I will remind Al his fish is only a supporting actor!

There's reports with a fair bit more than 3200 views on them. I think some are pushing 6 thousand or so.

5851 seconds ago but each time you access report count goes up so not unique hits. If I go back and forth between the report and reports page 10 times, the count will reflect it.

In the first picture, the expression on the face of the fish is something like relief that he has been ‘saved from himself ‘. “I just could not stop eating the pellets!”
