Did the Beaver Lake thing today as the weather looked better this way than compared to South. It was a crazy day out there today, but that’s fishing for ya.

Hit the water by about 9:45am and instead of rowing straight to the far end of the lake, I made a stop at a spot that produced my first Beaver Lake Triplod and a few others. I had a slightly different plan today to start out. Rod 2 on my left side went with Black Silver Flecks long lined on on my 7’ UL St. Croix which does not dance as much as Rod 1 which is a Lamiglas Infinity 7’6” UL which had the Metallic Perch Color that I short lined.

Cast out Rod 2 and row to let lots of Line out, flip the bail. Cast out Rod 1 and give it a high pull back with the bail open for another 10’ of Line, flip the bail, start to row. Right away I see my line wrapped up on the tip of Rod 1 so I grab it and start to untwist it and Rod 2 goes off screaming with a fish and I am not sure if ai was still moving or not at that point. WTH! First fish in and released within minutes!

Nothing else as I made my way down to far end. About 45 minutes goes by and Metallic Perch gets a fish on with about 50’ of Line out but comes off right away. Another 45 minutes and the MP goes off again but this time I had a lot of Line off and it comes off about 1/2 to my Pontoon. I switch out the Black Silver for a Gold/White/Orange since Metallic colors were doing better. Right away I get two fish and on and the second one crosses the line of the other rod near the boat. I try to get the lunker to come the other way as my line is straight down and SNAP! My St. Croix Avid breaks between eyelet #2 and #3 on the tip section, so pretty much just above where the two pieces connect to each other. The fish comes off as I try to untangle the two lines with a broken rod in my hands. I emailed St. Croix when I got home as it was registered.

Nothing else for the rest of the day so I hit spot 1 on the way back in and about 100 Yards past it my reel starts sing as the rain started to really come down.

So 4 for the day with 2 others lost. Caught two in spots that I really did not think I would catch anything and I broke my rod, which has never happened to me before. Off the water by 2pm.

I spoke to two other people as I launched that had 3 fish. One other boat with two guys that I tipped off last week lost two before they caught a really nice one....said to me, about 4 lbs and were Hooten it up pretty good after they netted it. I heard them again later on, but could not see them so my guess is that they landed another one. They were using super large Flatfish!

Still fish to be had or released at Beaver.....go get em!

I fish with 4lb mono or 10 lbs Braid....leader for these fish is 6lbs, but I mainly use 4lbs. The fish was just a normal size Plant at Beaver, about 2lbs.

wow, that looks bad... hopefully they will replace it for you.
I might hit Beaver this weekend, my MP finally arrived and I am willing to give it a try.
