I wanted to get in on the fun at Sammamish, so I hired Paul with Fast Action Fishing Adventures to take me out Saturday, starting at 8:00am. I grew up on Sammamish and caught numerous Kokanee and perch, but never a cutthroat trout. We talked with several accomplished fishermen on the lake, and it was not an easy day for anyone. Paul did an amazing job of trusting his instincts and kept changing up our location and presentation until we were bringing in trout! I caught and released a nice Kokanee right away. Good to know they are still in there, although sad that they are considered endangered in Sammamish. Paul's usual secret spots were not producing, but he was determined to get us on fish. I even did a fish dance to shift our mojo... It worked! Suddenly, fishing was hot! Most of our 6 cutts came near the weather buoy or a little north. We did well in the area marked by numerous midges and birds. Sizes ranged from 13-18”, with the largest one doing an aerial and acting much like a silver salmon. I caught three in a row on the lead core line at 12-17’ deep with a gold/silver dodger and green/orange/red wedding ring, worm tipped. On the other line we chased fish finder marks at 25-40’ on the downrigger with no success, then dialed in also at about 17’ deep with a God’s tooth prototype dodger and wedding ring in mostly red and silver. I made a comment that it was time for a fish on the downrigger. The next three came in on the downrigger. Then the bite seemed to die off completely, so we called it quits. We stopped by my family’s house on Sammamish and took pics. Paul filleted the two largest trout with the skill of a surgeon. Very nice red meat. Thanks Paul. You get an A+ for the day! If you have the go-pro video, it would be fun to include with this or another report. Happy Fishing!
