A buddy and I launched out Luhr's Landing and fished around Anderson Island from 12-4. Caught around two dozen sole and one big Starry flounder. We kept 16 of the rock sole; released the bigger clearly pregnant ones. But almost all were of respectable size.

We were drop-shotting curly tail grubs and/or bait (herring, night crawlers, squid) in 15-90 feet of water. Best luck was at 35-60 feet. To our surprise, my buddy hooked into a roughly 18-inch very healthy wild Chinook jigging a curly tail in about 15 feet of water. It was safely released. That was a nice punctuation mark on a really fun day. Even a shaker is a lot of fun on flounder gear.

Wonderful day! A little floundering was a nice way to cap off a great year.

How was the meat quality. I have fished and kept a few but always find them full of parasites that I now just release them if I catch them. I know a lot of fish carry parasites but the ones I describe are very obvious and usually for large lesions on the meat

only 1 of the 8 I took home had parasites (the biggest). Since we released the biggest, I suspect we avoid most of them. I've never really hard parasite problems with mid-size rock sole. I don't keep Starries though, because they're often Worm City regardless of size.

Good report...thanks!

While you were hauling in the flounder, did you happen to catch any sand dabs? I'm trying to locate a spot where I can catch some 'dabs'. My old spot up by Golden Gardens has been fished to death. Last summer I hooked what I thought was a decent sized ling and when I got up, it turned out to be a 34" starry flounder! I turned (her) loose as she was chock full of eggs and no longer feel good about keeping anything beyond what I can eat in a day or two. If there was a way to load the pic of my starry catch with this reply, I'd do so simply because it was the largest "flatty" I've seen other than halibut.

awesome! Too bad the pic can't be uploaded, would love to see it. Good call releasing it! Unfortunately, we did not encounter any dabs. I don't think they're too prevalent in deep South Sound.

Fish-or-man? If I were so dumb I could figure out how to PM you a pic of the 34" Flounderzilla
