I usually have nothing but tangles when I use more than one hook but braved three on three way swivels with two ozs of flattened bank sinkers on the end to try my hand at surf perch again. I did not get any pyramyd sinkers like I had planned so my rig was getting drug all over using flattened bank sinkers. Did catch one decent sized red tailed perch for three hours of fighting the surf.
I was using a 7’ Light Ugly Stik with 3 different colors of powerbait. The one the fish took was a nose hooked transparent light blue curlytail with silver fleck. I had tried dark coffee colored but never got a nibble.
I can see where people get knocked down and drown in the surf. Had a big surprise wave (saw it coming) that I was ready for but it continued up the bank and knocked over my ‘expanding’ cart with all my gear in it. Sand and salt water in everything!
Had fun!

I kind of laughed out loud as I read your 'Sand and water in everything' comment. Been there, done that!
Don't get too hung up on having pyramid sinkers. Believe me, in that surf no 1-3 oz sinker is going to keep your bait stationary. But, do look for the Berkley Gulp sandworms, etc. I wouldn't have much faith in your standard Powerbait (trout stink bait) stuff, if that is what you meant.

Also, you don't have to get all into using swivels, leader, etc. You can just tie your main line to any form of a sinker, 1-3 oz. then on that same mainline, tie the highest hook about 24" from Sinker, then a 2nd hook about 15" from that sinker. A palimar knot works real well for this, and if you Google the knot, it is easy.

Thanks!
I have tied my fair share of palomar knots... I did the swivels mostly to see if it would keep lines from getting wadded up. I do a lot of drop shot in the lakes but the hooks are either on the main line or VERY short leader. It did seem to help using the swivels.
I rigged up and took six different set ups on six poles today which made the dunking/sanding of all my gear that much worse. I rinsed everything off with fresh water but I know sand got in where a simple rinsing will not flush it out.

What bait were you using?

All Yamamoto stuff. I bought 30 bags of various styles and colors from a sponsored bass guy. I usually cut them up into pieces so it does not matter what shape they are.

Tracker you should try clam necks, when I use clam necks which I get at the copalius store I use a 2 hook set up. The hooks are #14 size I believe and they come pretied and you can get them anywhere. I cut a strip 1-2" wide enough to split that piece in 2 or 3 so it flutters. The more action the better, after I cast into the sure and it hits the bottom I reel very slow so the crabs don't grab my bait.
