Fished for four hours from shore with power bait. After two hours I decided it was time to check the bait. Brought in the first line with weeds on the sinker. Put it out again and went to the second pole. Picked it up and began reeling. Felt like I had the bottom so I assumed it was a lot of weeds. Kept reeling and still felt I was snagged! Then the fish rolled on the surface. The fish was barely hooked in the jaw. I did not weigh it but guess it was 3 1/2 to 4 pounds, measuring 22 1/2 inches! That's why I rated the day a five!

An eagle landed in a tree across the way and when I finally decided it was worth a picture, it took off! There were plenty of geese and ducks on the water.

What a fish! Obviously not wild? Seems to me a fish like that would be wild! Good for you.

Great fish and great day out! Looks like a Cutthroat to me, perhaps a Cutt-Bow? The mandible (jaw-line) goes well beyond the eye of the fish.

Please look again! Best way to determine bow or cut is by teeth on the tongue, this had none! A product of Lake Roosevelt's very successful net pen operations!

I should mention that the Donaldson trout which are stocked in Lake Roosevelt are a unique blend of Rainbow, Steelhead, and Cutthroat. That's why they can vary so much. This one is leaning towards Cutthroat is you ask me. We can thank the University of Washington and Lauren Donaldson for this spectacular fish!

Very interesting info on the genetic makeup of those Donaldsons, Third. The fish in that photo looks just like the cutts I catch on Lake Sammamish, except for the lack of coloration under the gills. That cuttie-sized mouth is pretty distinct.

Thirdofjuly their are no orange or red slashes under the jaw which are characteristics of a cutbow, so how could it be? Plus if you look at the coloration pattern it looks like a rainbow trout?

Lake Roosevelt stockers have Cutthroat and Steelhead genes mixed in. That's why they vary so much. Look at the size of the mouth on that fish.
