Hi, maybe rating descriptions need some tweaking.
Worked Merwin for 6 hours, threw everything at the kokanee. Marked huge numbers of fish between 15' and 20' that refused to bite. Ran downriggers with dodgers, using wedding rings tipped with anise shoepeg ; also tiny spoons. No dice. 6 solid hours of trolling with not a single bite.
trolled back to dock about 2 pm, 2 rods fouled on weeds within sight of the dock. I figured the 3rd was fouled went it went down, too.
Newp.
32" tiger muskie on a tiny Panther Martin behind a dodger at 20'. It got loose in the boat and went on a spree, until I got a hand under the gill plate and returned him/her to the water. It lingered a few seconds and took off under its own power. The rod/line combo is really stout so it didn't wear itself out with a long fight.
My host was upset and apologetic about the unusual lack of kokanee for him, until I caught the muskie. He knew I didn't give a rat's rear end about kokanee after that ;)
