Arrived at the launch at Vernita at 6:50 am and only waited several minutes before we were able to launch our boat and start fishing. There were probably 30 boats in the King Hole and we decided to head up to the Hatchery Hole. Closer to the dam there were only two other boats besides ours and we started fishing. The water was very low and I could see that it was 6-8 feet down from the water marks on the rocks. We fished the heck out of that stretch of river trolling downhill and didn't have a bite until 10am. It was a nice 9.5 pound Chinook and we got it in the section of river just above China bar. We had been ready to leave but gave that area a little longer hoping the bite had turned on. It paid of with another nice king that was and almost twin of the first fish. Both fish came on the same rod and set up which was the Pro Troll 11inch flasher and the Jack Pot(Silver and Chartreuse) plug cut super bait packed with garlic tuna. On that particular rod my leader between the flasher and the plug was only 3 feet. We used downriggers and stayed 3-4 feet off the bottom as much as possible. After those two fish, we then headed downstream to fish the King Hole around noon and after one drift our outboard wouldn't start. Just a click at the starter. I tinkered with it for a while and after no luck we decided to call it a day early. Luckily we were near the launch. When I got it home I found it to be a loose wire in the starter and an easy fix. From talking to other boats it was a tough day on the water and we were lucky to get the fish that we did.
