My first time fishing potholes. Heck, it was my first time fishing walleye in almost 20 years! Grew up in ND and that's the main game back there. Along with perch, like and everything else spiny. Anyway. We stayed at Mar Don resort. Lots of lodging options there, and the luxury cabins are a great option. We got there Friday, stopped in at the tackle shop/store got some tackle and hit the lake!
Friday Fished from 1:00pm - sun down Trolled smile blades with slow death hooks and some with just double hooks, same as sockeye setup. Only behind a bottom bouncer. Most hits on white blade pink beads. But got a few on green too. Picked up 4 small keeper walleye, a keeper crappie, and released a bluegill. .8-1.4 mph in front of "the humps" in anywhere from 30'-2' of water. Watch out it gets shallow with no warning. Keep your finger on the trim button!
Saturady fished from morning till 1:30 pm. Got blown off the lake that afternoon. Glad we had the hewescraft with canvass cause we would have gotten really wet heading in! Picked up 2 more keeper walleye and a really nice 21" rainbow! What a beauty! Great fight!!
Fun trip. Nice having the variety of fish. Wish we would have found some bigger walleye, but It sounds like we did better than most guys we talked to in numbers. One guy had a 24 incher though.
