I met another member in Cheney to show him how to find Bonnie Lake. We arrived at the launch ~7 and were surprised to see so many people there. A group was heading to the island to camp and at least 4 others set to fish.

I warn everyone that it's a fairly long paddle up Rock Creek. Thankfully, Devin had small, maneuverable kayak. I only banged into the sides of the creek a few times.

We stopped off at the rocks near the southwest corner of the lake and started fishing. I hit fish right away using nightcrawlers on the bottom. I kept moving north until coming near the outcrop of rocks. I tried the east side but found nothing. The bite disappeared around 10:00. I made it home with the 8 pictured. I tossed back 2 - 3 small perch and 1 largemouth (about 12 inches).

I'll let Devin tell you about his adventures and decide if it was worth the drive and paddle.

It was fun meeting you and heading out to Bonnie Lake, one I've had my eye on for a long time! You are right, I was very surprised to see how busy it was. Those guys that were camping obviously saw your previous post because they asked who was from NW Fishing Reports.

As soon as we made the main lake I got a nice ~2lb largemouth on a Rio Rico popper. Thought to myself "this is going to be a good day"! I didn't even weigh it or take a picture I was thinking there would be plenty more. Then, the wind came, and boy did it ever. I switched my top water to a Whopper Plopper and had a few bites, lost a few but only landed one other pounder. I spent a lot of time with a crawdad colored tube that I thought would be great in this lake with the rocky bottom, however it struck out.

My friends finally made it to the lake, they went the wrong way down Rock Creek for a long way, I wonder how close they came to Rock Lake? They said it was getting thick to the point they decided they made a mistake and turned around, they estimated they made it further than the actual paddle to Bonnie. Once they showed up we paddled to the island, I caught two dink LM over there on a Storm wild eye shad while we were standing on the bank. The paddle back was rough, super strong head wind. My kayak did pretty well but they were having a lot of trouble keeping any momentum going with their cheapo Emotion Darter kayaks. I can't imagine the guy that paddled to the island in one of those orange Explorer rafts heading back tomorrow if it's anything like today. Best of luck my friend!
