Met my buddy Jim on Tuesday morning at Spring Canyon and we fished Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We caught RB outside the launch, down at Crescent Bay and up near Keller. Looked for Kokanee and found trout, bet you never heard that before. Most were in the 13-14 range but nice and thick, got one big one I couldn't get my hand around. Caught an nice Walleye 50 ft down in 300 FOW, a gift for sure. Seemed like I was marking Kokanee in the Keller area but couldn't get one to bite. Tried a bunch of stuff but the clear winner was once again the Orange Kekeda fly, 2nd place went to a purple Kekeda fly with a green and red sling blade. Best I had ever done with a sling blade. Over half of the trout had those little lesions on the outside but there was no evidence that they went through the skin.

I have a Lowrance Elite 7 HDI that has given me some problems on and off since I bought it in December of 2014. This time it was locking up more than ever and I have decided to replace it. It just freezes up, doesn't update depth, or GPS and the buttons don't respond. Is there a clear cut favorite out there in the $500 to $800 zone? Think I paid around $400 + for this and I like it real well when it works, don't really anything fancier and can't afford it anyway.

Not many reports this summer, hope everyone is doing well.
Stay after them, it's the right thing to do.

Good to see a trout report from Roosevelt so thank you for posting one up. Hope to be back working our favorite fishing waters by end of Oct. :-)

I have a Garmin and it does the same as yours, just when I think I need it the most - they all seem to develop issues/problems as soon
as the warranty expires - I think their marketing people are engineers too and build in a series of planned failures to encourage us to
buy the next newest upgraded model. Thanks for the report, it's been a while since we've seen anything that resembles something
positive from the big lake - I'm like hewesfisher - going to wait until things cool down a bit. p.s. I shut mine down for a while (5-10 minutes)
and then turn it back on - seems to be OK after that.

Thanks for the report, I to have the same HDI 7 and it does freeze once in a blue moon. Turn off for a minute restart good to go the rest of the day. One thing I have noticed HEAT and a low battery does not help. I installed a newer kicker that charges the battery's and I have not had any issues after that? But that's me. Also make sure your up to date on the software very easy to do.

New?? I like the new Lowrance TI but there are others out there in your price range that will get the job done. The dragon fly looks nice.

Thanks for the input Hunter757 and outheresomewhere,
Mine has more of the 4 to 6 times a day until this last trip when it was more like 4 times an hour. Was wondering about heat, it got pretty warm down there. My kicker charges the battery so I don't think it is low voltage but have been thinking about maybe a couple of shielded 14 gauge wires directly to the battery. When I came of the water I was ready to head to a store but now am thinking a little trouble shooting may be more prudent particularly if Garmins have the same problem.
