I got a day off and took my wife out to teach her how to catch pink salmon. She never caught a salmon before and really only ever fished one other time in her life. It was a slow start action at first, teaching her how to cast a spinning reel, lots of tangles and snags, But she picked it up after a bit and started getting hook ups, she would try to continuously reel while the fish were attempting to run. This wasn't conducive to landing them though lol. Luckily i was using 12 lb maxima on that set up so, the line was forgiving at least. Next step i had to teach her how land a fish. So by this point i had already landed a few fish , and bonked a nice doe (hen) so i started handing my rod off to let her play my fish too, to help with the learning curve. She ended up landing the first fish i passed off to her, which was on my fly rod. Her next fish she hooked and landed completely on her own though. A very proud moment for me. She was pretty excited about it too. By the end of the day she went 2/5 on pinks and lost a chinook. I ended up landing 5 and lost a bunch. Visibility was poorer than on my last trip at around 18" vis not ideal, but we managed.
