Walleye fishing was great, the eclipse not so much. We put in at Coulee City park about 7:00 am and headed north to mid lake. We fish this area about 3 or 4 times a week and have been doing fair but not great. Today was way different. We started hooking into Walleye early, the problem was they just wouldn't stick on the hook. We lost at least 20 to 25 fish right at the boat or within 10 feet of the boat, we have never had this happen before. In most cases they didn't even tear up the worm, it was like they just held it in their mouth until they saw the boat then spit it out. Besides loosing so many we also had a couple dozen that were missed before you could get the pole out of the holder. We ended the day with 16 (two limits) of nice eater size walleye, 2 small mouth bass (one 14 inch and one 18 inch) and 1 perch. We released 10 or 12 sub size walleye, about a dozen smaller perch. Some days the walleye seem to be right next to the rocky shores hitting plugs and then the next day for some reason the are more in the open water just hitting worms. On a side note, there are so many small mouth bass in Banks lake it is ridiculous, we have had days recently where we have caught and released over 60 small mouth. A lot of times you can't get your gear down to the walleye before a smally hits.
