Another trip with no biggies to speak of. Launched about 0530 and with the rain falling and calm water I was very hopeful for an active topwater bite but a frog and two different buzzbaits didn't even get swirled at?
Figuring the fish were staying a bit deeper I got out the jig and Texas rigs. I got bit on the majority of my casts but loads of dinks! The larger fish, and I use that term loosely, came from about 15 feet of water and averaged 2.5 pounds. Wood cover was holding them on the jig bite and outside weed edges in 12-15 feet of water accounted for the majority of the Texas rig action.
The rain stopped by 0900 unfortunately but the Skagit County wind didn't! Borderline whitecaps the rest of the day and I headed out about 1230. Talked to another guy at the launch who said the night fishing had been outstanding. He was fishing up until 0200! That tells me a lot about the stage the fish are in and where I will target for the next couple weeks. I think I'll be back to Clear in September.
