In fairness I only had about 3-4 hours this morning. I went hoping the lake would be poppin' as I didn't have time to really get into dissecting the bite. I caught the first fish about an hour in and it wasn't just the first fish, it was the first BITE! I fished some great stuff too. It was about a 2.5 pounder and I wouldn't touch anything but dinks until I was about to leave and hooked another decent bass 3-4 pounds on an outside weed edge in 15 feet, it came unbuttoned but grabbed a Rage Craw on a 1/2 ounce tungsten.
If I had more time I am pretty sure the deeper bite was there and perhaps I should have tried it sooner but I just wanted to fun fish for a couple hours and was hauling butt for the first part of the day. The lake has been treated again by the geniuses of Skagit County, I guess they are committed to happy homeowners vs. a healthy lake that attracts anglers to spend their money in their county? Not super nasty yet but the clumps of goo the dead pads create are starting to form, the weird spaghetti grass that has exploded in this lake since the pads started getting treated years ago is really bad on the gravel side of the launch and elsewhere. May need to take my gas and food money back up to Whatcon County?!
Water temps were right around 75 and the clarity was decent with only a slight stain....All the more reason I should have tried deeper first.
