I usually go for bass (largemouth and small mouth) at this spot but noticed these monster carp that hang around this area. Tried small hooks with corn and that didn't work but then I through a hook with a worm on it (no weight) and let it float down until this small carp hit the bait. He was the smallest of the group (about 7) who were just hanging around eating bugs from the surface, which I had no idea they do. Pretty cool to observe and a decent fight. Caught him on 3 pound test line with my Emmrod pole!

Nice!
I work at Fred Hutch right across the street and usually go to that spot on my lunchbreak to just look in the water.
I have seen those same huge carp in that area and always wondered how good the fight would be, and how to catch em.
This post certainly answered that for me!
Nice work!

Will do!
Met a guy from SCCA, who fishes that same area after work to avoid sitting in traffic haha. Smart dude! Glad to know there are some cool fishing opportunities right across the street!

Carp are powerhouses and will definitely test your tackle! There are quite a few guys fishing for them seriously around the US. You can spend a bunch of dollars on gear (like most fisheries) but basic tackle, canned corn and worms will get it done.

With corn, the sweeter the better. Niblets or the better Green Giant brand has worked best for me, by far. Regular corn not so much. A good variety of corn on the cob taken off while preserving the whole kernel works well too.
