After the long 6 month waiting period it was time to go get some Dungies! Decided early on that no way was I going out on opening day or the day after for that matter, been there, done that and afterwards decided my stress level was not worth that zoo... mind you I am land-locked thus no where to motor to in order to get away from the combat crabbing scene.
Arrived at my usual time and proceeded to wait and snooze a bit before the gate opened. Gate opened and off to the pier and to be greeted by the a handsome Bald Eagle.
Crabbed on outgoing tide, and collected two keepers right away, fished until 12:30 when the pickings got really slow, by then had two additional Dungies in the pot and a couple of small Reds. A good day and a great group of folks on the pier. Couple of guys pulling up 9" perch one right after another, that was crazy!
Keepers were right at 6.25" and one at 6.5". Reds about 5.25".
I was encouraged as it seemed 95% of all the crab I pulled up (legal and undersized) were all hard, only a couple were soft.
