Had some time today and wanted to try out my Pontoon since I made some changes to how I outfitted it.
I got a late start today as I had to finish my chores first. Anyway...
I hit the water about 10:30 and motored up the East side of the lake. I marked some fish here and there but no schools so I assumed those were Bass or trout.
I stopped just before the point when I got to a like.y looking spot with a couple of stick-ups near shore. Anchored in 15' and dropped a homemade 1/16 oz. white jig. Got a hit right away.
Just as I got a look it got off. It was a Crappie...just not a bigger one. Oh well....you would think that would bode well for the day right? NOT....
THAT WAS MY ONLY BITE OF THE DAY! I tried up around the point in deeper waters...nothing.
There were a couple of other boats anchored there fishing rainbows....no luck for them either.
Wind was blowing and the pontoon was hard to control. Pulled off the lake about 2:30.
This was my first ever trip to McMurray, my first with the newly setup Pontoon and my first time fishing Crappie since I was a boy in Minnesota over 45 years ago. I CLEARLY NEED MORE PRACTICE...lol.

I'll be making some further modifications to the toon this week.
If any of you gave some pointers for this new guy...I'm all ears!
Quick question...does anyplace around here sell live bait...like minnows?
That's how we did it in Minnesota...fishing minnows under a bobber.

Fellow former Minnesotan here, live minnows are not legal as far as I can tell. I have had the best success generally everywhere with the pink head and white mister twister body...tip it with a taste of worm.

Thank you both for your replies and suggestions.
I have never heard of Trout Magnet so I'll have to google that one.
White bodies jigs I have..Silver head and Chartreuse. But....I have reddish nail polish with sparkles in it in the tackle box. I'll try reprinting the heads on a couple....
I did put a small piece of power bait worm on either the jig though....didn't help.

Thanks again!

I was out as well yesterday and didn't have any luck for crappie. Last time there (fathers day) had success. My buddy was just here the 2nd and did well, days like that suck. You will get em all next go round! Tight lines

You cant use live minnows unless you catch them in the body of water you are fishing in (is my understanding of our live bait law). Try tipping a crappie jig with night crawler or maggot, that seems to work for quite a few crappie fisherman on here.

Yes, trout magnet. I like the basic brown color with a brass/gold head -1/32ounce. Other colors work well, but I have done fine with that. My wife likes chartreuse clear flip tail with orange jig head. Bobber works well like in Minnesota. All good. Crappie seem to be big hit or all miss for me. Haven't seen a formula that works consistently.
Sorry, no live minnows in Washington. And yes, they would work well.
