I went to Lake Union to try and catch some smallmouth bass. It was tough last week, but I was hoping that the bite would be better this week. I started out at 6 am at West Montlake park. It looked like a really good spot, but I didn't have any luck there. I threw all kinds of lures, including drop shot, Ned rig, chatterbait, jerkbait, lipless crankbait, and shallow running crankbait. I moved on to Lake Union Park around the docks. I saw one fairly good size bass lazily swimming near the dock, but I couldn't interest it in any of my lures. I ended up at my favorite place, which is on the Fremont Cut in front of Seattle Pacific University. I ended up with 2 small rock bass on a drop shot and 1 dink smallmouth on a jerkbait. I saw some other smallmouth come out and inspect my jerkback (Rapala Husky Jerk), but I couldn't get them to strike. I'm new to the area, and I've been looking for good places to fish for bass from shore. Lake Union seems to have the best shore access so far. If anybody has any suggestions, that would be awesome. I think eventually I should probably get a kayak, as shore access seems pretty limited on a lot of the lakes in the area.
